Update

The police have already issued a warrant and unfortunately there is still no response from Abdul as he is busy travelling abroad in China.

Eric has visited the warehouse manager a couple of times and the manager has confirmed that the goods are still 100% stored in the warehouse and have to wait for Abdul to be on site to release our goods to Eric.

Humbled, Eric waits for Abdul to come by and again it's a devastating process.

Eric's view

The realization of KAFFEEKostBAR is yet to be achieved here in Kenya. With so much support both from Germany and Indonesia especially from Nicolas’s mother and sister who have supported this venture greatly. They have provided financial backing for the initial Endeavor to import bioorganic coffee from Indonesia, along with essential equipment like sample roasters, cupping bowls, a unique server, a pour over filter from SUJI, and a coffee grinder.

Previously we relied on Skyway Forwarders Limited for importing goods from China to Nairobi, Kenya. They did a great job to ensuring the first order was very smooth and therefore we opted to use their services again for clearing the Indonesian imports. Since this was the first-time getting things from Indonesia for clearing, Anna the manager at the time helped us connect with Abdul who facilitated the clearing of the goods.

However, they encountered a setback when they realized they hadn't obtained information about the cost of customs clearance beforehand. Although I believed the fee would be around 20,000 KSH, the actual cost turned out to be a staggering 190,000 KSH. Abdul explained that this was due to the shipment being treated as an individual one, not consolidated goods and also the many paperwork needed at the clearance due to coffee brought in. However, discrepancies in the invoice, particularly the listing of 146,843 KSH under "miscellaneous", raised suspicions.

I realized my naivety in assuming the process would be similar to their previous importation from China. Unknown to us, Abdul had established another shipping company and diverted their goods to it, instead of Skyway, which was owned by his uncle. This lack of transparency left them feeling unfairly obliged to accept the unforeseen costs.

After four months of waiting and relying on prayer, I managed to negotiate a reduced cost of 165,000 KSH with Abdul on December 5th. Despite having the funds since early February, attempts to secure the goods have been met with Abdul's unresponsiveness, raising concerns that he might sell off the goods unlawfully.

I am left stranded not knowing what is the condition of the goods. In light of these circumstances, I’ll appeal for justice either from Abdul or through legal channels in Kenya. Our sole desire is to introduce righteous BIO roasted coffee from Indonesia and kickstart the marketing of sample roasting machines, enabling me to also promote the Kenyan coffee brand.

Despite these setbacks with Abdul, we remain hopeful that justice will prevail, entrusting our plea to divine intervention. Nawaita wote willing to support our quest for justice to reach out and ensure Abdul honors the agreed-upon terms, delivering the goods to me in Ngong Town.
